Archaeologists digging in the Bulgarian city of Stara Zagora have discovered an exquisite Roman floor mosaic, after excavating in the pit of a newly constructed block of flats just outside what used to be the northern gate of the ancient Roman settlement of Augusta Trayana in Stara Zagora.Archaeologist Dimitar Yankov stated, "The figures are very realistic, with the mosaic's tiny tiles varying in all shades of colors to depict their clothing, movements, facial expressions, hair and jewelry".
According to Yankov, the find is dated to late 2nd or early 3rd century A.D. .
